First place and absolute triumph: Teresa Asplund
The main prize for 2025 was won by Swedish photographer Teresa Asplund. Her work, which also took the “Pet Photography” category, was a real sensation. On a minimalist white background, a group of small birds is captured on a branch. The image impresses not only with technical perfection and the clarity of every feather detail, but also with an extraordinary anthropomorphism. Judges noted the frame’s “narrative depth,” which turned an ordinary nature observation into a gripping, dramatic story.
Silver prize and “Wildlife” category: Cecilia Studal
Second place overall went to Norway’s Cecilia Studal. Her piece is a triumph of timing and patience. The photographer managed to catch the moment when a red fox, mid‑leap, tries to snatch a crab. The shot was taken in the harsh conditions of Finnmark, where wild nature sets the rules. The shot’s dynamics, the spray of water, and the predator’s tense body create a sense of total immersion in the instant. Cecilia’s work reminds us that the beauty of nature lies in its primordial cruelty and grace.
Harsh truth of life: Terry Donnelly
Rounding out the top three is famous British master Terry Donnelly. His documentary photograph sharply contrasts with the first two places through its social acuity. Terry, known for his ability to work with light even in the most chaotic conditions, presented an image that became a symbol of our times. It is a deep study of human nature and social upheaval that forces the viewer not just to look but to analyze what is happening in the world.
Aesthetics and psychology of advertising: Neil Shirer
Neil Shirer proved that commercial photography can be high art. His work, which placed fourth in the final ranking, is an example of flawless lighting and strong graphic composition. In advertising, it is important not only to sell a product but to create a myth around it. Neil managed to turn the photographed object into an object of desire using bold shadows and unconventional angles. His success underscores that in today’s world, the boundaries between “pure art” and commercial commissions are virtually erased when a true professional is at work.
Geometry of space: Tim Wild
Fifth place went to Tim Wild, who presented an architectural masterpiece in monochrome. Architectural photography demands mathematical precision, and Wild delivered brilliantly. His image explores the interaction of light, shadow and concrete, turning a building into an abstract canvas. Sharp lines and the rhythm of the composition create a hypnotic effect. Tim makes us look at familiar urban landscapes anew, finding harmony in the chaos of the metropolis and celebrating engineering genius through the lens of his camera.
