2026.07.0619:30:00UTC+00Speculators Deepen Bearish Bets on Kiwi as Net Shorts Expand to -63.3K

Net speculative positions in the New Zealand dollar (NZD) fell further into negative territory, signaling a stronger bearish stance among traders, according to the latest Commitment of Traders data from the CFTC released on 06 July 2026.

The NZD speculative net position declined to -63.3K contracts, compared with a previous reading of -54.8K. The widening net short suggests that market participants have increased their downside exposure to the kiwi, potentially reflecting ongoing caution toward New Zealand’s currency in the current global macro environment.

The move deeper into negative territory underscores persistent skepticism from speculative investors, who appear reluctant to shift away from a predominantly bearish NZD view for now.
