07.07.202612:34:04UTC+00Mexico Car Exports Fall Sharply in June

Mexico’s car exports fell 9.2% year-on-year to 301,009 units in June 2026, following a 1.7% increase in May. The downturn underscores persistent uncertainty in the automotive sector, as shifting US trade policies continue to cloud manufacturers’ export strategies. In his second term, US President Trump imposed a series of tariffs on several countries, including Mexico. At the same time, his administration chose not to renew the USMCA. Under the agreement’s terms, it will remain in force for another decade unless a member formally withdraws, but it will now be subject to annual reviews that could result in significant changes. Parallel to this, the US and Mexico are engaged in ongoing bilateral trade negotiations.

Export volumes by manufacturer dropped sharply, with particularly steep declines recorded by Mercedes (-64.5%), Audi (-55.7%), Nissan (-46.2%), Mazda (-24.6%), Volkswagen (-20.2%), Ford (-15.2%), and Acura (-13.1%).
