Japan’s foreign exchange reserves declined by USD 18.40 billion in June 2026, falling to USD 1.287 trillion from USD 1.306 trillion in May and extending the sharp drop seen in the previous month. Foreign currency reserves accounted for USD 1.091 trillion of the total, consisting of USD 928.58 billion in securities and USD 161.93 billion in deposits. Of these deposits, USD 161.50 billion were held with foreign central banks and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), while deposits with banks headquartered in Japan totaled USD 405 million and those with foreign commercial banks amounted to USD 25 million. Japan’s reserve position at the IMF stood at USD 11.31 billion, its SDR (Special Drawing Rights) holdings were valued at USD 60.39 billion, and its gold reserves were worth USD 109.51 billion. Other reserve assets came to USD 15.76 billion, and other foreign currency assets were reported at USD 34.12 billion.
